Abstract

|
Doberol, a new ?-adrenergic blocking agent, was given to seven cases of essential hypertension and six cases of angina pectoris. In all cases of hypertension and five cases out of six with angina pectoris, a fall in the systolic and diastolic blood pressure, in both supine and erect postures, was noted and the fall was more marked in the latter posture. Unexpectedly the pulse rate was increased in both rostures in all cases and the increase was more marked in the erect posture. The therapeutic efficacy on angina pectoris was excellent to good in four cases out of six.
Untoward reactions noted were depressive reaction associated with insomnia and anorexia, transient facial flushing and development of - congestive heart failure responded well to treatment occuring in one case, respectively. However, in none of them, was discontinuation of the drug necessary. No adverse effects were seen in blood cells and functions of the liver or the kidney.
